White polyester mesh runs the full length of the front rail, matching painted spindles and light woods without drawing attention to itself. We make this piece from a single layer of our Classic weave to fold flat over the wood. It fits cribs with slatted sides as well as solid end panels.

Our Classic mesh weave

We use our Classic weave here, an open polyester grid that holds its shape under tension. Air moves freely through the panel, and the single layer stays light across the top rail without adding bulk along the wooden edge.

The bound edges and trim

Polyester trim binds the raw mesh along every side. The finished edge keeps the cover straight along the rail, so the cloth sits flat against the wood rather than rolling or bunching when pulled taut.

Hook and loop straps

Wide hook and loop strips run down the back, paired with adjustable straps that loop between the slats. You pull each strap through, press the surfaces together, and tension the fabric until the panel sits tight.

The outer storage pocket

A small mesh pouch sits on the room-facing side of the rail cover. It gives you a spot to drop a teether or pacifier so it stays off the floor and within reach beside the crib.

Not a crib bumper under federal law

When Congress banned padded crib bumpers, the definition CPSC wrote does not include a non-padded mesh crib liner. Our panels sit outside that ban.

No recall of the mesh panels

The mesh liners have never been recalled. One product was, in 2013: a wearable blanket we stopped making that year.

What the guidance says, in full

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends a bare crib: a firm flat mattress, a fitted sheet, and nothing else in it. That recommendation does not carve out mesh liners. Federal law and pediatric guidance say different things here, and we would rather you read both than hear only the half that suits us.

Fitting it, in order

Face the side with the larger holes into the crib, so the finer surface sits outward.
Run the panel along the inside of the rails and wrap the last slat at each end.
Point the ties upward and fasten them on the outside of the frame, never inside.
Set the bottom edge about an inch below the top of the mattress, then pull every tie snug.

Keep it tight against the crib side. Do not use it if it hangs loose or sags toward the mattress. Position the ties on the outside of the crib and pull them snug. Never put pillows or anything else in the crib alongside it. Never use it in a toddler bed or bassinet.

When to take it out

Take the panel out of the crib once your baby can pull up to standing against the crib side, which starts at around six months. An older baby can use it to climb.

It is our Classic weave at 3mm, which holds back 85% of the daylight. The other weaves in the catalog are AirflowBaby at 2mm and 60%, Deluxe at 4mm and 80%.

Is this a padded bumper?

No. It is a non-padded mesh panel. The Safe Sleep for Babies Act was signed in May 2022, and the ban on padded crib bumpers took effect that November. It reaches padded bumpers, vinyl guards and vertical slat covers. The definition CPSC wrote for it does not include a non-padded mesh crib liner.
