Night notes

Sheets that stay put

A fitted sheet is the one thing every list of what belongs in a crib agrees on, and the only thing it has to do is not come loose.

Fitted means fitted

A sheet that pops off a corner in the night stops being a sheet and becomes loose fabric in a crib, which is the thing every list tells you to keep out of it. Depth matters more than length here: the pocket has to go under a mattress of the thickness you actually own, not the standard one.

Check the mattress, not the crib

Crib mattresses are close to a standard size but not identical, and the depth varies more than the footprint does. Measure the thickness before you order, and if a sheet has to be stretched to reach, it is the wrong one.

Washing and the spare

Whatever happens at three in the morning is easier with a second sheet in the cupboard. Wash temperatures are not the same across every piece here, so the one printed on the listing is the one to follow rather than a rule of thumb.
